I said: Saʿīd ibn Abī Ayyūb also corroborated him: ʿUqayl narrated it to me. It was recorded by Ibn Ḥibbān (5518) with the wording: "He gathered his hands, then blew into them, then recited...", and by Aḥmad (6/154), except that he said: "He blew into them, then recited." I said: Saʿīd ibn Abī Ayyūb is also Egyptian, and al-Ḥāfiẓ said: "A trustworthy and reliable [narrator]." Know that the ḥadīth has been narrated by another group of trustworthy narrators from al-Zuhrī, and I preferred to mention this narration of ʿUqayl for two reasons: first, because it has been attributed by several to the two Shaykhs, including Ibn Taymiyyah in "al-Kalim al-Ṭayyib" (number 30) and many others. I followed them in some of my annotations until it became clear to me that it is exclusive to al-Bukhārī and not Muslim, and that this was only recorded through a different route of ʿUqayl in a summarized form, as al-Ḥāfiẓ al-Mizzī indicated in "Tuḥfat al-Ashrāf." When this became clear to me, I promptly extracted it and highlighted it. The second reason is that it is more complete than the narration of the other trustworthy narrators, among them Mālik, al-Layth, and Yūnus, and this narration is closer to that of ʿUqayl. It was recorded by al-Bukhārī (5748), who said: ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Uwaysī narrated to us: Sulaymān narrated from him with the wording: "When the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) went to bed, he would blow into his palms with (Say: He is Allāh, the One) and the two protectors together, then wipe his face and whatever his hands reached of his body with them." ʿĀʾishah said: When he fell ill, he would instruct me to do that for him
