Ibn al-Zubayr said to his father: "O my father! Tell me about the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) so that I may narrate from you; for every son of the Companions narrates from his father." He said: "O my son! There is no one who accompanied the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) in companionship except that I accompanied him in the same or better. And you know, O my son, that your mother Asmāʾ bint Abī Bakr was under me, and you know that ʿĀʾishah bint Abī Bakr is your maternal aunt, and you know that my mother is Ṣafiyyah bint ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib, and that my maternal uncles are Ḥamzah, Abū Ṭālib, and al-ʿAbbās, and that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) is my maternal cousin. And you know that my aunt Khadījah bint Khuwaylid was under him, and that her daughter Fāṭimah bint the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam). And you know that his mother is Āminah bint Wahb ibn ʿAbd Manāf ibn Zuhrah, and that the mother of Ṣafiyyah and Ḥamzah is Hālah bint Wahb. And I accompanied him with the best companionship, all praise is due to Allāh, and I heard him say..." and he mentioned the ḥadīth. It was recorded by Ibn Ḥibbān (6982 - al-Muʾassasah), and al-Ḥākim (3/361), and both he and al-Dhahabī were silent about it. I say: Its isnād is weak due to the unknown status—or weakness—of al-Zubayr ibn Khabīb—with the dotted khāʾ as in "al-Ikmāl," but it appeared in "al-Kāmil," "al-Mīzān," and "al-Lisān" and others with the undotted ḥāʾ! Only two people narrated from him, and al-Dhahabī said: "There is some leniency in him." See "al-Ḍaʿīfah" number (6100) where I have concluded that he is truthful. And Yaʿqūb—he is Ibn Ṣadīq ibn Mūsá al-Zubayrī al-Madanī—the father of ʿAtīq, and I did not find a biography for him. As for his son ʿAtīq, he is trustworthy; al-Dāraqutnī deemed him reliable, Abū Zurʿah narrated from him, and Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in "al-Thiqāt" (8/527), and he translated before him another (8/225), naming his father "Muḥammad," so the ḥāfiẓ in "al-Lisān" thought that Ibn Ḥibbān did not know his lineage, which is an error from..
