I said: Ḥusayn is ibn ʿAyāsh, and he is trustworthy, as is al-Ḥasan ibn Mūsá—who is al-Ashyab—so their narration is preferred over that of Aḥmad ibn Yūnus; even though the latter's narration is more likely when considering Sufyān's previous narration and what follows. ʿAbd al-Razzāq said in "al-Muṣannaf" (5/233/9467): from Maʿmar and al-Thawrī from Abū Isḥāq who said: I heard al-Muhallab ibn Abī Ṣufrah say: someone who heard the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) told me... and he mentioned it. They were followed by Sharīk from Abū Isḥāq from al-Muhallab ibn Abī Ṣufrah who said: a man from the Companions of the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) told me: the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said on the night of the trench: "I do not see the people except that they will attack you [tonight]; so your slogan should be: (Ḥām) they will not be victorious." It was recorded by Ibn Saʿd, al-Nasāʾī, and Aḥmad (5/377), and also by al-Ḥākim; except that he said: from Abū Isḥāq who said: I heard al-Muhallab ibn Abī Ṣufrah mention from al-Barāʾ ibn ʿĀzib that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "You will meet your enemy tomorrow; so let your slogan be: (Ḥām) they will not be victorious." Al-Ḥākim said: "And it has been said: from Abū Isḥāq from al-Barāʾ." I said: This is part of the disagreement mentioned at the beginning of this study, which is: the second aspect: Shaybān from Abū Isḥāq from al-Barāʾ that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "You will meet your enemy tomorrow..." the ḥadīth, and he added: "the supplication of your Prophet."
