his saying: "shaʿaf"; with the opening of the letter mīm and the neglected letter ʿayn: is the plural of "shaʿfah" like "akam" and "akmah," which are: the tops of the mountains; as in "al-Fatḥ" (1/69). It appears in a narration of al-Bukhārī: "or saʿaf al-jibāl" with the neglected sīn; meaning: palm fronds, which has no meaning here. It is a doubt from one of the narrators; so there is no need for reconciliation as al-Ḥāfiẓ did (6/614). and his saying: "asāwid" is the plural of "aswad," which is: the snake; or the most wicked of snakes. and "ṣabā": is the plural of "ṣabūb." al-Naḍr said: When the snake wants to bite, it rises and then falls upon the bitten. "Nihāyah." The ḥadīth was mentioned by al-Haythamī (7/305) with the other narration that includes the addition, and he said: "It was narrated by Aḥmad, al-Bazzār, and al-Ṭabarānī with isnāds, and one of them has the men of (al-Ṣaḥīḥ)!"
- (Indeed, by Allāh! We do not appoint for this work anyone who asks for it, nor anyone who is eager for it). It was narrated by Ibn Abī Shaybah in "al-Muṣannaf" (12/215/12587): Abū Usāmah told us, he said: Burayd ibn ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us from Abū Burdah from Abū Mūsá who said: I entered upon the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) with two men from my cousins, and one of the men said: O Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), appoint us over some of what Allāh has entrusted you with. And the other said the same, he said: so he mentioned it. I said: And this isnād is authentic according to the conditions of the two Shaykhs, and they both narrated it, as Muslim narrated it (6/6) from the path of "al-Muṣannaf." And it was also narrated by al-Bukhārī, and Abū Yaʿlá (13/306/7320); and from him Ibn Ḥibbān (7/8/4464) from the path of Muḥammad ibn al-ʿAlāʾ: Abū Usāmah narrated it to us,
