I said: This isnād is weak due to Zamʿah and Salamah, but they are not severely weak, so they can be used as supporting evidence. Aḥmad (3/451) and al-Ḥākim (4/293) narrated through the route of Abū Salamah from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Rawāḥah (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu). He was on a journey, and when he returned, he hurried to his family at night. He found something sleeping with his wife, so he took the sword. His wife said: [Keep away from me]; this is so-and-so who was combing my hair. He went to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and mentioned that, and the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "Do not enter upon women at night." Al-Ḥākim said: "Authentic according to the conditions of the two Shaykhs." Al-Dhahabī refuted it by saying: "I said: This is mursal." Al-Haythamī explained it by saying (4/330): "Aḥmad and al-Ṭabarānī narrated it in a shortened form, and its men are the men of 'the Ṣaḥīḥ'; except that Abū Salamah did not meet Ibn Rawāḥah." I said: But it has a supporting narration from the ḥadīth of Jābir who said: Ibn Rawāḥah (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) came to his wife and a woman was combing her hair, so he pointed with the sword. This was mentioned to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), and he forbade a man from entering upon his family at night. It was extracted by Abū ʿAwānah (5/116) with a sound isnād, and its origin is in "Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim" (6/56), and similarly by al-Bukhārī (5243)
