I said: Its isnād is authentic, and al-Ashʿath is Ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Ḥuddānī al-Baṣrī. Ibn Sīrīn was followed by Abū Salamah from Abū Hurayrah: that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) saw a mouse and said: "It is a jinn; I know nothing except that it is from the Jews!" Recorded by Ibn ʿAdī in "al-Kāmil" (5/1702) with this wording, and also by al-Ṭaḥāwī with the wording "a ḥinn and I know nothing ḥinn except from the Jews." Both of them recorded it through the route of ʿUmar ibn ʿAlī from Mūsá ibn ʿUqbah from him. And this ʿUmar is al-Muqaddamī, and he used to practice a peculiar type of tadlīs. And "jinn" with a jīm in "al-Kāmil," and its print is very poor, and in "al-Mushkil": "ḥinn" with a ḥāʾ neglectful, and the meaning is not clear to me, and this word is not mentioned in some of the photographed copies of "al-Kāmil" available at the Islamic University. (Benefit): It is apparent that this ḥadīth was his (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) opinion before Allāh Almighty informed him that He did not leave any progeny for a transformed creature; as mentioned earlier in the ḥadīth of Ibn Masʿūd (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) raised with the wording: "Indeed, Allāh did not transform anything and leave it with progeny or descendants..." the ḥadīth. Its extraction has been previously mentioned under ḥadīth (2264). And with this, al-Ṭaḥāwī and other scholars reconciled between the two ḥadīths. *
