(Umm Ṭulayq is right; if you gave her the camel, it would be in the cause of Allāh, and if you gave her your she-camel, it would be, and you would be in the cause of Allāh, and if you gave her from your provision, Allāh would replace it for you). It was recorded by al-Dūlābī in "al-Asmāʾ wa-al-Kuná" (1/41): Ibrāhīm ibn Yaʿqūb narrated to us, saying: ʿUmar ibn Ḥafṣ ibn Ghiyāth narrated to me, saying: My father narrated to me, saying: al-Mukhtār ibn Fulful narrated to me, saying: Ṭalq ibn Ḥabīb al-Baṣrī narrated that Abū Ṭulayq told them: that his wife, Umm Ṭulayq, came to him and said: The time for ḥajj has come, O Abū Ṭulayq! He had a camel and a she-camel; he would perform ḥajj on the she-camel and go on expeditions on the camel. She asked him to give her the camel to perform ḥajj on it. He said: Do you not know that I have dedicated it in the cause of Allāh?! She said: Indeed, ḥajj is in the cause of Allāh; so give it to me, may Allāh have mercy on you! He said: I do not wish to give it to you. She said: Then give me your she-camel and perform ḥajj on the camel. He said: I will not prefer you over myself with it. She said: Then give me from your provision. He said: I have nothing extra beyond what I need for myself and my family, what I take out and what I leave for you (original: descend). She said: If you gave it to me, Allāh would replace it for you. He said: When I refused her, she said: When you go to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), convey my greetings to him and inform him of what I said to you. He said: So I went to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), conveyed her greetings to him, and informed him of what Umm Ṭulayq said, he mentioned it. He said: And she asks you, O Messenger of Allāh! What equals ḥajj [with you]? He said: "ʿUmrah in Ramaḍān."
(صَدَقت أمُّ طُلَيْقٍ؛ لو أعطيتَها الجمَلَ كان في سبيلِ اللهِ،ولو أعطيتها ناقتكَ كانت وكنتَ في سبيلِ اللهِ، ولو أعطيتها من نفقتِكَ أَخْلَفَكَها اللهُ) .أخرجه الدولابي في "الأسماء والكنى" (١/ ٤١) : حدثنا إبراهيم بن يعقوب قال: حدثني عمر بن حفص بن غياث قال: ثنا أبي قال: حدثني المختار بن فُلْفُلٍ قال: حدثني طلق بن حبيب البصري أن أبا طليق حدثهم:أن امرأته أم طليق أتته، فقالت له: حضر الحج يا أبا طليق! وكان له جمل وناقة، يحج على الناقة، ويغزو على الجمل، فسأَلَته أن يعطيها الجمل تحج عليه؟ فقال: ألم تعلمي أني حبسته في سبيل الله؟! قالت: إن الحج من سبيل الله؛ فأعطنيه يرحمك الله! قال: ما أريد أن أعطيَكِ. قالت: فأعطني ناقتك وحج أنت على الجمل. قال: لا أوثركِ بها على نفسي. قالت: فأعطني من نفقتك. قال: ما عندي فضل عني وعن عيالي ما أخرج به وما أترك (الأصل: أنزل) لكم، قالت: إنك لو أعطيتني أخلفكها الله. قال: فلما أَبَيْتُ عليها، قالت: فإذا أتيت رسول الله- ﷺ فأَقْرِئْهُ مني السلام، وأخبره بالذي قلت لك.قال: فأتيت رسول الله ﷺ، فأقرأته منها السلام، وأخبرته بالذي قالت أم طليق، قال ... فذ كره. قال: وإنها تسألك يا رسول الله! ما يعدل الحج [معك] ؟ قال: " عمرة في رمضان ".
