It was recorded by Ibn Ḥibbān (1728, Mawārid). Yazīd was followed by Ḥafṣ ibn Ghiyāth from Dāwūd ibn Abī Hind with it. It was recorded by al-Ḥākim (2/142 and 4/366) who said: "The isnād is authentic." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him. He was also followed by ʿAlī ibn ʿĀṣim from Dāwūd with it; however, he differed in his narration and said: "A man from the Anṣār apostatized..." the ḥadīth is similar, and at its end: "He said: His people wrote to him about it, and when it was read to him, he said: By Allāh! My people did not lie to me about the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), nor did the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) lie about Allāh ﷿, and Allāh is the truest of the three. He said: So he returned repentant to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), who accepted that from him and let him go." I say: ʿAlī ibn ʿĀṣim is truthful; however, he used to make mistakes and insist on them as mentioned in "al-Taqrīb"; thus, his solitary reports and contradictions are not accepted. However, he was followed; it was recorded by Ibn Jarīr through the route of Ḥakīm ibn Jamīʿ from ʿAlī ibn Mus-hir from Dāwūd ibn Abī Hind from ʿIkrimah from Ibn ʿAbbās who said: A man from the Anṣār apostatized... and he mentioned something similar. So it is therein, he did not narrate its wording, but rather referred to the wording of Yazīd ibn Zurayʿ mentioned before, and its first part is like the first part of the ḥadīth of ʿAlī ibn ʿĀṣim as you see. So Allāh knows best; did it follow it—I mean: the ḥadīth of ʿĀṣim—or the ḥadīth of Ibn Zurayʿ? But Ibn Jarīr narrated after it a supporting narration from ʿAbd al-Razzāq who said: "Jaʿfar ibn Sulaymān informed us, saying: Ḥumayd al-Aʿraj informed us from Mujāhid who said:
أخرجه ابن حبان (١٧٢٨- موارد). وتابع يزيد حفص بن غياث عن داود بن أبي هند به. أخرجه الحاكم (٢/١٤٢ و ٤/ ٣٦٦) وقال: "صحيح الإسناد". ووافقه الذهبي. وتابعه أيضاً علي بن عاصم عن داود به؛ إلا أنه خالف في سياقه فقال: "ارتد رجل من الأنصار.. " الحديث نحوه، وفي آخره: "قال: فكتب بها قومه إليه، فلما قرئت عليه قال: والله! ما كذبني قومي على رسول الله ﷺ، ولا كذب رسول الله- ﷺ على الله ﷿، والله أصدق الثلاثة، قال: فرجع تائباً إلى رسول الله- ﷺ، فقبل ذلك منه، وخلى سبيله". قلت: وعلي بن عاصم صدوق؛ لكنه كان يخطئ ويصر كما في "التقريب"؛ فلا يقبل تفرده ومخالفته. لكنه قد توبع؛ فأخرجه ابن جرير من طريق حكيم بن جَمِيع عن علي بن مسهر عن داود بن أبي هند عن عكرمة عن ابن عباس قال: ارتد رجل من الأنصار.. فذكر نحوه. كذا فيه، لم يسق لفظه، وإنما أحال به على لفظ يزيد بن زريع الذي قبله، وطرفه الأول مثل طرف حديث علي بن عاصم كما ترى. فالله أعلم؛ هل نحا نحوه- أعني: حديث عاصم- أم نحو حديث ابن زريع؟ لكن قد ساق ابن جرير عقبه شاهداً له من رواية عبد الرزاق قال: أخبرنا جعفر بن سليمان قال: أخبرنا حميد الأعرج عن مجاهد قال:
