and al-Ṭaḥāwī in "Mushkil al-Āthār" (2/184) through various chains from Ibn Abī Dhīʾb, from Shuraḥbīl ibn Saʿd, from Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh, who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said... and he mentioned it. It was also narrated by Ibn Khuzaymah in "Ṣaḥīḥ" (2/52/897), and also by Aḥmad (3/300), as well as Ibn Abī Shaybah in "al-Muṣannaf" (2/411-412); they said: Wakīʿ narrated to us from Ibn Abī Dhīʾb from him, who said: I asked the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) about wiping the pebbles during prayer, and he said: "Once, and refraining from it is better for you than a hundred black-eyed camels." I said: Shuraḥbīl ibn Saʿd, who is an Anṣārī, was considered weak by the majority, but Ibn Maʿīn authenticated him in one narration, as did Ibn Ḥibbān. Al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb": "Truthful, but he became confused later in life." Al-Haythamī said in "Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid" (2/86): "It was narrated by Aḥmad, and it includes Shuraḥbīl ibn Saʿd, who is weak." However, it is supported by a corroborating narration from Abū Dharr, as al-Ṭayālisī said in "Musnad" (63/469): Ḥammād ibn Salamah narrated to us from ʿAmr ibn Dīnār, from Abū Baṣrah al-Ghifārī, from Abū Dharr, who said: "Wiping the pebbles once, and not doing it is more beloved to me than a hundred black-eyed camels." Through al-Ṭayālisī's route, it was narrated by al-Bayhaqī in "al-Sunan al-Kubrā" (2/285) and he said: "Mujāhid narrated it from Abū Dharr from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) regarding wiping the pebbles once."
