that from him was narrated by Ibrāhīm ibn Saʿīd al-Jawharī: Abū Usāmah narrated to us: Burayd ibn ʿAbd Allāh narrated to me from Abū Burdah from Abū Mūsá from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) who said ... and he mentioned it. I said: This isnād is authentic according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs [al-Bukhārī and Muslim]; for they both included many ḥadīths from Abū Usāmah with this isnād; except that it is disconnected between Muslim and Abū Usāmah, as he did not mention who narrated it to him; but he did assert that it was narrated to him by Ibrāhīm ibn Saʿīd al-Jawharī, and a group has connected it from him. It was included by Ibn Ḥibbān in "Ṣaḥīḥ" (8/223/6613 and 9/172/7171 - al-Iḥsān), Ibn ʿAdī in "al-Kāmil" (2/496), al-Bayhaqī in "Dalāʾil al-Nubuwwah" (3/77), and Ibn ʿAsākir in "Tārīkh Dimashq" (15/518/2) through various routes from al-Jawharī with it. Ibn ʿAdī mentioned it in the biography of (Burayd ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Burdah al-Ashʿarī), and he said: "I have examined the ḥadīth of Burayd ibn ʿAbd Allāh; I did not find any objectionable ḥadīth in it, and the most objectionable he narrated is this ḥadīth, and this is a good path narrated by trustworthy narrators, and some have included it in their 'Ṣaḥīḥ' collections; and I hope there is no harm with Burayd in this." I said: The two Shaykhs have included his narrations as I mentioned earlier, and al-Dhahabī said in "al-Kāshif": "Truthful." And al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb": "Trustworthy, with minor errors." Then Abū Usāmah—whose name is Ḥammād ibn Usāmah—was followed by Yaḥyá ibn Burayd ibn Abī Burdah from his father. Ibn ʿAdī included it (7/2681) through the route of al-Qawārīrī from him
