and in some of what he mentioned, there is a point of contention in my view; there is no room to discuss it now. The important thing is that his answer—ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam—is the same in all these narrations, regardless of whether the questioner was a man or a woman, and whether the one being asked about was a father or a mother. No one else is included except if there is an excuse and a will was made, as is the opinion of Mālik, and the ḥadīth of Shubrumah is interpreted in this way. There is no room to detail this now. Then I found another chain for the ḥadīth, narrated by Ibn Isḥāq: Khālid ibn Kathīr told me that ʿAṭāʾ ibn Abī Rabāḥ told him that ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbbās told him: that a man asked the Messenger of Allāh ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam about performing ḥajj on behalf of his father? He said: "Perform ḥajj on his behalf; do you not see that if he had a debt..." [and so on]. It was recorded by al-Dāraqutnī (2/260/114). I say: Its isnād is good. It is further strengthened by the fact that it was also narrated through the route of Sharīk from Ibn Abī Laylá from ʿAṭāʾ. Then he produced a supporting narration from the ḥadīth of ʿAbbād ibn Rāshid: Thābit narrated to us from Anas ibn Mālik: that a man asked the Prophet ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam and said: My father died without performing ḥajj? He said: "What do you think..." [and so on]. From this route, it was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Kabīr" (1/231/748) and "al-Awsaṭ" (1/8/1/98) and he said: "No one narrated it from Thābit except ʿAbbād." Thus he said! But he was followed up, as will be mentioned, and he is truthful but has errors among the narrators of al-Bukhārī
