As for the statement of the commentator on "Majmaʿ al-Baḥrayn" (2/138) after mentioning al-Dāraquṭnī's statement: "And Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in 'al-Thiqāt' and said: 'He makes mistakes and errors,' he died in the year (318). al-Lisān (5/170) and al-Mīzān (3/551)"! This is one of the astonishing errors, and here is the explanation: Firstly, Muḥammad ibn Zuhayr al-Abli is not mentioned at all in "Thiqāt Ibn Ḥibbān," and there is no one by this name (Muḥammad ibn Zuhayr) except for one entry without a lineage, and he is from the Tābiʿīn, as I verified in "Taysīr al-Intifāʿ"; so I do not know how this occurred to him?! Secondly, if you refer to the two sources he cited, you will not find any mention of Ibn Ḥibbān and his statement! Thirdly, it is not the style of scholars to present a later authority before an earlier one in the same category, so the correct order is to present "al-Mīzān" before "al-Lisān," as is evident. Moreover, regarding the Prophet's (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) sprinkling water on his son's grave and others, there are other ḥadīths which I extracted in "al-Irwāʾ" (3/205-206), and all of them are defective; I did not find anything to strengthen them at that time, but when I found this ḥadīth in "al-Awsaṭ al-Ṭabarānī," I hastened to extract it to strengthen them. And Allāh is the grantor of success, there is no Lord besides Him. *

It was recorded by al-Ṭaḥāwī in "Sharḥ al-Maʿānī" (1/415), Ibn ʿAdī in "al-Kāmil" (5/8), and al-Bayhaqī in "al-Sunan" (5/151) through the route of Ibn Wahb: ʿUmar ibn Qays informed me from ʿAṭāʾ ibn Abī Rabāḥ who said: I heard Ibn ʿAbbās say: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said... and he mentioned it
