and Abū Zurʿah al-Dimashqī narrated to us: ʿAlī ibn ʿAyāsh narrated to us: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Sulaymān ibn Abī al-Jawn narrated to us, they said: Rāshid ibn Dāwūd al-Ṣanʿānī narrated to us from Abū ʿUthmān al-Ṣanʿānī from Abū al-Dardāʾ who said: Rain was scarce during the time of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), so we asked him to pray for rain for us, [and he prayed for rain], then the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) went out the next morning and found people talking, saying: "We were given rain by such and such a star!" The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said... and he mentioned it. Al-Bazzār also included it in "his Musnad" (1/316/658 - Kashf al-Astār): Ibrāhīm [who is] (1) ibn [Hāniʾ: narrated to us] A (2) Muḥammad ibn Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAyāsh: My father narrated to me: Rāshid ibn Dāwūd al-Ṣanʿānī narrated to me with it. And an addition: [he prayed for rain] from him. I said: These are two chains to Rāshid ibn Dāwūd al-Ṣanʿānī—he is truthful but has errors—from Abū ʿUthmān al-Ṣanʿānī—whose name is Sharāḥīl ibn Murthad—and he is a trustworthy companion, so the first chain from him is good; because all its narrators are trustworthy; because Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAyāsh is trustworthy and his ḥadīth is authentic in his narrations from the people of al-Shām, and this is among them. And from the other chain, it is ḥasan in itself, or at least ḥasan due to other factors; because Ibn Abī al-Jawn is truthful but makes mistakes; as in "al-Taqrīb," it is strengthened by the corroboration of Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAyāsh for him. And the ḥadīth has supporting evidence that increases its strength: the first is from Zayd ibn Khālid al-Juhanī with a similar wording, narrated by the two Shaykhs and others, and it is included in "al-Irwāʾ" (3/144/681)
