it was recorded by al-Ḥākim (4/209) who said: "Authentic according to the criteria of al-Shaykhayn." However, al-Dhahabī refuted this by saying: "Usayd ibn Zayd al-Ḥammāl is abandoned."

"Count for me everyone who has professed Islam." It was recorded by Muslim (1/91), Abū ʿAwānah (1/102), Ibn Mājah (2/492), Aḥmad (5/384), and al-Muḥāmilī in "al-Amālī" (1/71/2) through many chains from Abū Muʿāwiyah, from al-Aʿmash, from Shaqīq, from Ḥudhayfah who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said it, and he mentioned it. And he added: "He said: We said: O Messenger of Allāh, do you fear for us? We are between six hundred and seven hundred. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: You do not know, perhaps you will be tested. He said: We were tested until a man among us would only pray secretly." The wording is from Ibn Mājah. Sufyān corroborated it, as Abū Bakr al-Shāfiʿī said in "al-Fawāʾid" (8/91/2): Isḥāq (meaning al-Ḥarbī) narrated to me, Abū Ḥudhayfah narrated to us, Sufyān narrated to us from al-Aʿmash with it. However, he said: "And we were one thousand five hundred?" This is an error from Abū Ḥudhayfah, whose name is Mūsá ibn Masʿūd al-Nahdī, and he is truthful but has poor memory, while the rest of the narrators are reliable.
