and there is a corroborating narration for this ḥadīth from Ibn ʿAbbās who said: "I saw the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) eating a piece of sheep, then he prayed without rinsing his mouth or touching water." It was recorded by Ibn Ḥibbān (2/236/115) and Aḥmad (1/253 and 281) through two chains from Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr ibn ʿAṭāʾ from him. And this Muḥammad - who is al-ʿĀmirī al-Qurashī - is trustworthy and among the men of the two Shaykhs, as are all the other narrators, so the isnād is authentic, and all praise is due to Allāh. It is also in "al-Ṣaḥīḥayn" and other collections from different chains from Ibn ʿAbbās in a shortened form without mentioning the rinsing, and it is included in "Ṣaḥīḥ Abū Dāwūd" (182, 184, and 185). Then I found another chain for the ḥadīth narrated by Abū Marwān al-ʿUthmānī who said: ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Muḥammad narrated to us from Zayd ibn Aslam from ʿAṭāʾ ibn Yasār from him with it. It was also recorded by Ibn Ḥibbān (1139). Its narrators are trustworthy, except for Abū Marwān al-ʿUthmānī, whose name is Muḥammad ibn ʿUthmān ibn Khālid al-Umawī, and he is truthful but makes mistakes, so he is used for corroboration.

- (O Abū Dharr..! Clean earth suffices you even if you do not find water for twenty years (in another narration: ten years); but when you find it, then let it touch your skin).
