they said: hypocrisy! He said: "Do you not testify that there is no deity but Allāh, and that Muḥammad is His servant and messenger?" They said: Yes. He said: "That is not hypocrisy." They said: When we are with you, we are in one state, and when we leave you, we are preoccupied with the world and our families! He said: "If, when you leave me, you remain in the state you are in [when with me], the angels would greet you on the roads of the city." It was recorded by Abū Yaʿlá in "Musnad" (6/58/3304): ʿAbd al-Wāḥid narrated to us: Ghassān ibn Burzīn narrated it. I said: This isnād is authentic, all its men are trustworthy, and ʿAbd al-Wāḥid is Ibn Ghiyāth, and Thābit is al-Bunānī. It was also followed by Qatādah from Anas in a summarized form, and it has been mentioned under number (1965) *
