"authentic according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him. And I say: Al-Thaqafī is not according to their criteria, and Bahz ibn Asad is not among their teachers, so it is only authentic if it is free from irregularity or contradiction. The second: from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbbās, ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar, and ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ collectively: that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said ... and he mentioned it. It was narrated by Abū Nuʿaym in "al-Ḥilyah" (3/305) through the route of ʿUthmān ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar al-Umawī: Yahyá ibn Ayyūb, the trustworthy, narrated to us: Hishām ibn Ḥassān and Layth ibn Abī Sulaym, and two others whom he named, each of them saying: I heard Abū al-Ḥajjāj—meaning: Mujāhid—say: from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbbās... etc. And he said: "This is an authentic, established ḥadīth from Anas ibn Mālik, rare from Mujāhid collectively from them, uniquely narrated by Yahyá ibn Ayyūb." I said: He is al-Ghāfiqī al-Miṣrī, and he is trustworthy. If it is preserved from him as indicated by Abū Nuʿaym's emphasis on its unique narration, then the chain is authentic; but I have great doubt about that due to its rarity, and because al-Umawī, the narrator from him, is accused of fabrication, and he has a bad biography in "al-Mīzān" and "Lisān." And Allāh knows best. The third: from Abū Hurayrah, raised [to the Prophet], similar to the ḥadīth of Sinān ibn Saʿd from Anas mentioned earlier. It was narrated by al-Khaṭīb (8/262) through the route of Ḥakīm ibn Nāfiʿ al-Raqī from ʿAṭāʾ al-Khurāsānī from him. I said: And this is a weak isnād; ʿAṭāʾ—he is the son of Abū Muslim al-Khurāsānī—the ḥāfiẓ said: "Truthful but makes many mistakes, and he transmits mursal and muʿanʿan reports."
