- From Qazʿah who said: Ibn ʿUmar sent me on an errand, and he said: "Come so that I may bid you farewell as the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) bid me farewell when he sent me on an errand for him. He said: 'I entrust to Allāh your religion, your trustworthiness, and the end of your deeds.'" From his (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) etiquette when bidding farewell: there are three ḥadīths: the first is from Ibn ʿUmar, and it has several chains from him: A - From Qazʿah who said: Ibn ʿUmar sent me on an errand, and he said: "Come so that I may bid you farewell as the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) bid me farewell when he sent me on an errand for him. He said: 'I entrust to Allāh your religion, your trustworthiness, and the end of your deeds.'" Narrated by Abū Dāwūd (no. 2600), al-Ḥākim (2/97), Aḥmad (2/25, 38, 136), and Ibn ʿAsākir (14/290/2 and 15/469/1) from ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz from him. Its narrators are trustworthy, but there is a disagreement regarding ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz. Some narrated it in this way, while others inserted a man between him and Qazʿah, whom some named "Ismāʿīl ibn Jarīr" and others "Yaḥyá ibn Ismāʿīl ibn Jarīr." Al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn ʿAsākir has detailed the different narrations in this regard. Al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb" that the correct statement is from those who said: "Yaḥyá ibn Ismāʿīl." I say: He is weak, but the ḥadīth is strengthened by other chains. In a narration by Ibn ʿAsākir: "As the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) bid me farewell, he took my hand and shook it, then said," and he mentioned it. B - From Sālim that Ibn ʿUmar used to say to a man when he intended to travel: "Come close to me so that I may bid you farewell as the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) used to bid us farewell," and he mentioned it.
