"ʿAbd al-Razzāq criticized him, and Hishām ibn Yūsuf said: he is truthful." And Ibn Maʿīn said that he is trustworthy. Then he narrated other ḥadīths from him and said: "He has good ḥadīths besides what I mentioned, and I hope there is no harm in him." I said: Muslim also declared him trustworthy, and when Abū Zurʿah reported that ʿAbd al-Razzāq accused him of lying, he followed it with the statement: "And I say he is more trustworthy than ʿAbd al-Razzāq." Therefore, al-Dhahabī and al-Ḥāfiẓ said about him: "Truthful." Al-Ḥāfiẓ added: "ʿAbd al-Razzāq was biased against him." I said: Those above him are trustworthy with slight weakness in (Yaʿqūb), who is Ibn Ḥumayd ibn Kāsib, so the isnād is ḥasan as Ibn ʿAdī indicated, rather it is ṣaḥīḥ as it was corroborated as mentioned earlier under number (2883), and there is a clear benefit in repeating its extraction here.

- "The devils came to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) from the valleys and descended upon him from the mountains, and among them was a devil with a flame of fire intending to burn the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), he said: he was terrified, Jaʿfar said: I think he said: he began to retreat. He said: and Jibrīl (peace be upon him) came and said: O Muḥammad, say. He said: What should I say? He said: Say: "I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allāh which neither the righteous nor the wicked can surpass, from the evil of what He created, and what He brought into existence, and from the evil of what descends from the sky, and from the evil of what ascends
