in it, and from the evil of what He has created in the earth, and from the evil of what emerges from it, and from the evil of the trials of night and day, and from the evil of every visitor except a visitor who comes with good, O Most Merciful!" Then the fire of the devils was extinguished, and Allāh defeated them. It was recorded by Aḥmad (3/419), Abū Yaʿlá (12/237), and from him by Ibn al-Sunnī (631), and Abū Nuʿaym in "al-Dalāʾil" (p. 148) and "al-Maʿrifah" (2/49/2), and al-Bayhaqī in "Dalāʾil al-Nubuwwah" (7/95) through various chains from Jaʿfar ibn Sulaymān: Abū al-Tayyāḥ narrated to us, saying: A man asked ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Khunbash: How did the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) act when the devils plotted against him? He said: and he mentioned it. In another narration by Aḥmad, and through his chain by Abū Nuʿaym in "al-Maʿrifah": Sayyār ibn Ḥātim Abū Salamah al-ʿAnazī narrated to us, saying: Jaʿfar narrated to us: Abū al-Tayyāḥ narrated to us, saying: I said to ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Khunbash al-Tamīmī - and he was elderly -: Did you meet the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)? He said: Yes. I said: How did the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) act... the ḥadīth. I said: And this isnād is ḥasan from this perspective, Sayyār is truthful as al-Dhahabī said, although there is slight criticism, as indicated by al-Ḥāfiẓ who said: "Truthful but has mistakes" (1). And the ḥadīth from the other chains through Jaʿfar is authentic, except that Abū al-Tayyāḥ's statement in it: "A man asked ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Khunbash..." appears in my critique as a mursal form, unlike Sayyār's statement, which is connected, and perhaps for this reason al-Bukhārī said after mentioning it in "al-Ṣaḥābah":
