"there is no harm in him; people have narrated from him." Ibn Ṭāhir al-Maqdisī mentioned in "Rijāl al-Ṣaḥīḥayn" (2/568/2209) that al-Bukhārī narrated from him individually at the end of "al-Iʿtiṣām" and in other places in conjunction. Al-Ḥāfiẓ indicated in his biography in "al-Tahdhīb" that this ḥadīth with al-Bukhārī is a follow-up. It is also mentioned in "al-Taqrīb," but its text contradicts what was previously mentioned by Ibn Ṭāhir, as it states: "weak, he has only one place in al-Bukhārī as a follow-up." This also contradicts his statement in his biography in "Muqaddimah Fatḥ al-Bārī" (p. 451): "al-Bukhārī narrated one ḥadīth from him from Hishām from his father from ʿĀʾishah regarding (the gift), and he was followed up on it by him." I did not recognize this ḥadīth (the gift), but it is included in "other places" he referred to, and it contradicts reality, for I saw the ḥadīth at the end of "al-Iʿtiṣām" with the number (717) with its previous isnād, but it said: "from ʿĀʾishah" instead of "from Umm Salamah," and it is a part of the ḥadīth of the slander, and al-Ḥāfiẓ did not speak in "al-Fatḥ" (13/343) except about al-Bukhārī's shaykh narrating it from Yaḥyá, and it would have been better for him to clarify the status of this Yaḥyá! However, he did not do so here, nor in the first place, as if because it is a follow-up. Perhaps that is why al-Dhahabī included him in "al-Ruwāt al-Mutakallam fīhim bimā lā yūjib al-Radd" (187/365), although he only pointed out that he is among al-Bukhārī's men, with his saying: "Abū Dāwūd weakened him." Al-Ḥāfiẓ refers to the follow-up by his statement in "al-Fatḥ" (3/487): "And al-Ismāʿīlī has narrated through the path of Ḥassān ibn Ibrāhīm, and ʿAlī ibn Hāshim..
