rare ḥadīth. 1 - His statement: (bi-ayman) is found as such in "al-Musnad" and "Jāmiʿ al-Masānīd" (7/409-410) and "Aṭrāf al-Musnad" (2/699). In "Musnad Abī Yaʿlá," it appears as "bi-umayman"! And in "al-Bazzār," it is "banās"! Both are likely distortions — and Allāh knows best — of the first, and all three are missing from "Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid" and "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr," which includes the Musnad of (ʿAbdullāh ibn al-Ḥārith) that has not yet been printed for us to use in verification. And (Ayman) is the son of (Um Ayman), mentioned among the Companions. 2 - (Mukhārīq) is the plural of (Mikhrāq): a cloth that is wrapped and used by boys to hit each other. 3 - (Qassīsūn). I said: it is the plural of (Qassīs), which refers to the devout scholar among the leaders of the Christians, as mentioned in "al-Mufradāt" by al-Rāghib al-Aṣbahānī and others. It seems they mean that they are devout and strict, similar to how the Jews and their followers refer to those among the Muslims who adhere to their religion as (extremists)! *Their hearts are alike*! 4 - (Fa-bilāy) is as found in "al-Musnad." In "Abī Yaʿlá," it is "fa-bi-abī," and al-Haythamī also attributes it to him, but it appears as (fa-tabī), which is a clear typographical error. The correct version is what is in "al-Musnad," as Ibn al-Athīr mentioned (lāy), saying: "meaning after difficulty, effort, and delay." This means that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) did not seek forgiveness for them despite that. (A note on a significant error): When al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥajar presented the first part of Aḥmad's narration in "Aṭrāf," he followed it with
غريب الحديث. ١ - قوله: (بأيمن) كذا في " المسند " و " جامع المسانيد " (٧/ ٤٠٩ - ٤١٠) و " أطراف المسند " (٢ / ٦٩٩) وفي " مسند أبي يعلى ": " بأمأيمن "! وفي " البزار " " بناس "! وهما محرفان - والله أعلم - من الأول،والثلاثة سقطوا من " مجمع الزوائد " و " المعجم الكبير " الذي فيه مسند (عبدالله بن الحارث) لم يطبع بعد لنستعين به على التحقيق. و (أيمن) هو ابن (أمأيمن) ، له ذكر في الصحابة. ٢ - (مخاريق) جمع (مخراق) : ثوب يلف، ويضرببه الصبيان بعضهم بعضا. ٣ - (قسيسون) . قلت: هو جمع (قسيس) ، وهو العالمالعابد من رؤوس النصارى، كما في " المفردات " للراغب الأصبهاني وغيره.فكأنهم يعنون أنهم متعبدون متشددون، كما يسمي اليهود وأذنابهم المتمسكينبدينهم من المسلمين بـ (المتطرفين) ! * (تشابهت قلوبهم) *! ٤ - (فبلأي)كذا في " المسند ". وفي " أبي يعلى ": " فبأبي "، وكذا عزاه إليه الهيثمي، لكن وقع فيه (فتابي) ، وهو خطأ مطبعي ظاهر، والصواب ما في " المسند "،فقد أورده ابن الأثير (لأي) ، وقال: " أي بعد مشقة وجهد وإبطاء ". يعنيأن النبي ﷺ مع ذلك ما استغفر لهم.
