- "Glory be to Allāh! They neither felt shame before Allāh, nor did they cover themselves from the Messenger of Allāh. He said this about a group of naked people." It was recorded by Aḥmad and his son ʿAbd Allāh (4/191), Abū Yaʿlá (3/109-110), and al-Bazzār (2/429-430) through two chains from Sulaymān ibn Ziyād al-Ḥaḍramī that ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Ḥārith ibn Jazʾ al-Zubaydī narrated to him: that he and a companion passed by (Ayman) and a group of Quraysh who had removed their waistcloths and were using them as whips, striking each other while naked. ʿAbd Allāh said: When we passed by them, they said: These are priests, so leave them. Then the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) came out to them, and when they saw him, they scattered. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) returned angrily until he entered [his house], and I was behind the wall, so I heard him say: (He mentioned it), and Umm Ayman was with him saying: Seek forgiveness for them, O Messenger of Allāh! ʿAbd Allāh said: He eventually sought forgiveness for them. I say: This is an authentic isnād, its narrators are trustworthy. Al-Haythamī said (8/27): "It was narrated by Aḥmad, Abū Yaʿlá, al-Bazzār, and al-Ṭabarānī, and one of the isnāds of al-Ṭabarānī is trustworthy." I say: He missed attributing it to ʿAbd Allāh ibn Aḥmad, and the commentator on "Musnad Abī Yaʿlá" and the commentator on "al-Maqṣid al-ʿAlī" (3/50) followed him, even though they attributed it to Aḥmad with the same volume and page, but they did not notice what was at the end of the ḥadīth: "ʿAbd Allāh said: And I heard it from Hārūn." I say: And Hārūn is the teacher of his father Aḥmad in it, and he is Hārūn ibn Maʿrūf al-Marwazī, a trustworthy narrator from the two Shaykhs [al-Bukhārī and Muslim]
