"ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in "al-Thiqāt," and Ibn Khuzaymah included him in his (Ṣaḥīḥ)." I said: He mentioned him in the generation of the (Followers of the Followers) (7/549), through the narration of Ḥafṣ ibn Ghiyāth from him. Maʿqil ibn ʿUbayd Allāh also narrated from him as in "al-Jarḥ wa-al-Taʿdīl" (4/2/9) and narrated his authentication from Ibn Maʿīn. This same narration appeared in the previous biography (al-Walīd ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Mughīth, the client of Banū ʿAbd al-Dār), and it is also in "Tārīkh al-Dārimī" (p. 140) from Ibn Maʿīn, but he did not say (ibn Abī Mughīth..), so it seems it was inserted in the biography of (al-Walīd ibn ʿUbayd Allāh) in the generation of "al-Jarḥ wa-al-Taʿdīl." Nāfiʿ ibn ʿUmar also narrated from him as previously mentioned in the ḥadīth of the biography. Thus, three trustworthy narrators transmitted from him, so he is truthful, except that al-Dāraquṭnī weakened him, and al-Dhahabī agreed as mentioned earlier. And Allāh knows best. On this occasion, I say: Ibn Ḥibbān included for him in his "Ṣaḥīḥ" (201 - al-Mawārid) the ḥadīth of the man with the head wound who became impure in cold winter, and they advised him that he must perform ghusl, so he did and died. The Prophet ﷺ said: "They killed him, may Allāh kill them..." the ḥadīth. It was narrated through Ibn Khuzaymah, and this is in his "Ṣaḥīḥ" as previously mentioned by the ḥāfiẓ, and it was also narrated by Ibn al-Jārūd and al-Ḥākim, and authenticated by him and al-Dhahabī, and strengthened by a group including Ibn al-Qayyim in "Ighāthat al-Lahfān." As for the commentator (al-Haddām) Ibn ʿAbd al-Manān, he weakened it as usual in opposing the imams of the sunnah, and when he extracted it, he concealed from his readers this isnād, which at the very least can be used as supporting evidence, as he concealed their authentication, and he has many such instances of injustice in weakening and concealing, may Allāh give him what he deserves. See the details in my response to him, number (3), may Allāh make it easy for me to complete it.
