"the people of Medina narrated from him, and he was a poet." I said: he is therefore known and a Successor, and for this reason, I deemed it good. Ibn Isḥāq mentioned him in "al-Sīrah" (4/169-170) in more detail, narrating from al-Zuhrī, Yazīd ibn Rumān, ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Bakr, ʿĀṣim ibn ʿUmar ibn Qatādah, and other scholars, which indicates that the ḥadīth was well-known among them. Through the route of Ibn Isḥāq, al-Ṭabarī included it in "al-Tafsīr" (10/104) and al-Bayhaqī in "Dalāʾil al-Nubuwwah" (5/213-214). It has supporting evidence from the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿAbbās and the mursal of Mujāhid. As for the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿAbbās, it has two routes: one of them is narrated by Bishr ibn ʿAmārah from Abū Waraq from al-Ḍaḥḥāk ibn Muzāḥim from him, who said: When the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) intended the expedition of (Tabūk), he said to Jadd ibn Qays: "Would you like [to go] to the daughters of the yellow [people]?" He said: "Grant me leave and do not tempt me!" So Allāh revealed: * (And among them is he who says, 'Grant me leave and do not tempt me') *. Al-Ṭabarānī included it in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (2/308/2154 and 12/122/12954) and "al-Awsaṭ" (2/42/2/5734 - according to my numbering) through the route of Yaḥyá ibn ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd: Bishr ibn ʿAmārah narrated it. And he said: "No one narrated it from Abū Waraq except Bishr ibn ʿAmārah."
