and it may be said: he did not attribute it to al-Bayhaqī because he did not find its isnād, and that it differs from the isnād of al-Ṭabarānī. I say: this is possible, but if so, it is an excuse worse than the fault, because one who is sincere to himself first, and then to his readers second, would not dare to weaken a ḥadīth narrated by some of the imams without having examined its isnād, as the judgment on the ḥadīth might change, as is the case here, even if he himself might not see it that way. However, it is not surprising that he concealed this witness, for he has concealed what is stronger than it in dozens of ḥadīths, as has been previously explained on many occasions, especially in what I am currently engaged in, regarding his numerous weakenings of the authentic ḥadīths of "al-Ighāthah." And Allāh is the one whose help is sought.

- "O grandfather! Would you like to engage in battle with the Banū al-Aṣfar?" It was narrated by Ibn Abī Ḥātim in "al-Tafsīr" (4/51/1) through the route of Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq: He informed me from Saʿīd ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Ḥassān ibn Thābit from Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh who said: I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say: and he mentioned it, and the grandfather said: "O Messenger of Allāh, will you permit me, for I am a man who loves women, and I fear that if I see the daughters of Banū al-Aṣfar, I might be tempted?" So the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), turning away from him, said: "I have permitted you." At that moment, Allāh revealed: "And among them is he who says, 'Permit me and do not put me to trial.' Surely, into trial they have fallen." (Sūrah al-Tawbah, 49) I say: This isnād is good, its men are trustworthy and well-known from the men of "al-Tahdhīb" except for this Saʿīd ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, whom Ibn Abī Ḥātim mentioned in "al-Jarḥ wa-al-Taʿdīl" (2/1/39) with the narration of this Ibn Isḥāq, and he left it blank, and Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in "al-Thiqāt" (6/249) and said:
