- "Remove the hair of disbelief from yourself and circumcise." He said this to a man who embraced Islam. It was recorded by ʿAbd al-Razzāq in "al-Muṣannaf" (6/10/9835) and through his route by Aḥmad (3/415), Abū Dāwūd (356), and through his route by al-Bayhaqī (1/172) and al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (22/395-396), all of them through the route of ʿAbd al-Razzāq: Ibn Jurayj informed us, saying: I was informed about ʿUthaym ibn Kulayb from his father from his grandfather: that he came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: "I have embraced Islam," so the Prophet ﷺ said to him: "Remove the hair of disbelief from yourself," meaning: shave. He said: And another informed me about him that the Prophet ﷺ said to another: and he mentioned it. I said: And this isnād is unknown, due to the anonymity of Ibn Jurayj's shaykh who was not named, as well as ʿUthaym and those above him, and there is a disagreement in its isnād which I mentioned in "Ṣaḥīḥ Abī Dāwūd" (382). And I want to point out here that Ibn Ḥibbān included this ʿUthaym in "Thiqāt" (7/303), although he mentioned that Ibn Jurayj narrated from a man about him, referring to this narration, which contradicts some of the conditions he set for the narrators of this book in his introduction (1/11-13) and the conditions for the narrators of the ḥadīths of his book "al-Ṣaḥīḥ" which he also mentioned in his introduction (1/83-84). Refer back if you wish. But this ḥadīth is good in its text according to me, following Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah ﵀ as I mentioned in "Ṣaḥīḥ Abī Dāwūd," due to the ḥadīth of Qatādah Abū Hishām who said: "I came to the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ and he said to me: 'O Qatādah, wash with water and lote leaves, and shave the hair of disbelief from yourself.'" And the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ used to order those who embraced Islam to circumcise, even if they were eighty years old. And I said there:
