It was also narrated by Aḥmad (3/362) through the route of Ḥammād: Abū al-Zubayr informed us of it, and he mentioned the ḥadīth in its entirety with its commands and prohibitions, with some traits abbreviated, and added: "and that we refrain from our idle talk until the darkness of the night passes." Al-Layth ibn Saʿd followed him in narrating from Abū al-Zubayr with the first part of the ḥadīth, without the prohibitions and without the refraining. It was narrated by Muslim (6/105) and others. It is also referenced in "al-Irwāʾ" (39) and was narrated by ʿAṭāʾ ibn Abī Rabāḥ from Jābir with the two Shaykhs, and I have provided its wording and referenced it there. One thing remains, which is that in all the preceding routes and from various sources, I did not find the second trait of the five prohibitions: "and do not drink with your left hand," so I fear it might be an error from some narrators, where a ḥadīth was mixed with another as sometimes happens with some of them. For this trait is established in other ḥadīths, including the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿUmar with the wording: "None of you should eat with his left hand, nor drink with it, for the devil eats with his left hand and drinks with it." It is referenced earlier along with others of similar meaning (1236). (Note on Matters): First: The last sentence of the prohibitions appeared in "al-Mawārid" as follows: "and do not sit with your garment reaching." And in "al-Iḥsān" (4/89/1273/institution):
" مفضيا إلى السماء ". وأخرجه أحمد (٣ / ٣٦٢) من طريق حماد: أنبأنا أبو الزبير به، فذكر الحديثبتمامه بأوامره ونواهيه، مع اختصار بعض الخصال، وزاد: " وأن نكف فواشيناحتى تذهب فحمة العشاء ". وتابعه الليث بن سعد عن أبي الزبير بالشطر الأول منالحديث دون النواهي ودون الكف. أخرجه مسلم (٦ / ١٠٥) وغيره. وهو مخرج في" الإرواء " (٣٩) ورواه عطاء بن أبي رباح عن جابر عند الشيخين، وقد سقتلفظه وخرجته هناك. بقي شيء واحد، وهو أنني في كل الطرق المتقدمة ومنالمصادر المختلفة، لم أجد الخصلة الثانية من النواهي الخمس: " ولا تشرببشمالك "، فأخشى أن تكون وهما من بعض الرواة، دخل عليه حديث في حديث كما يقعذلك من بعضهم أحيانا، فإن هذه الخصلة ثابتة في أحاديث أخرى منها حديث ابن عمربلفظ: " لا يأكلن أحد منكم بشماله، ولا يشربن بها، فإن الشيطان يأكل بشماله، ويشرب بها ". وهو مخرج فيما تقدم مع غيره مما هو بمعناه (١٢٣٦) . (تنبيه على أمور) : الأول: وقعت الجملة الأخيرة من النواهي في " الموارد "هكذا: " ولا تحتب والإزار مفضي ". وفي " الإحسان " (٤ / ٨٩ / ١٢٧٣ /المؤسسة) :
