but he refused, and Abū al-Daḥdāḥ came to him and said: Sell me your palm tree for my garden. He said: So he did. He said: Then he came to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and said: O Messenger of Allāh! I have bought the palm tree for my garden, so make it his. The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) then mentioned it. He went to his wife and said: O Umm al-Daḥdāḥ! Leave the garden, for I have sold it for a palm tree in Paradise. She said: You have made a profitable sale. Or words to that effect. Al-Ḥākim said: "Authentic according to the criteria of Muslim." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him. And it is as they said. There is supporting evidence for the ḥadīth of the translation from the ḥadīth of Jābir ibn Samurah, with a similar wording. It was recorded by Muslim, Ibn Ḥibbān (9/144/7113 and 7114) and others, and al-Tirmidhī authenticated it, and it is included in "Aḥkām al-Janāʾiz" (75). Another supporting evidence from the narration of ʿAbd al-Razzāq: Maʿmar informed us from Zayd ibn Aslam who said: "When the verse *Who is it that will lend to Allāh a good loan...* was revealed, Ibn al-Daḥdāḥ came..." the ḥadīth is similar but does not include the story of the man and Abū al-Daḥdāḥ buying the palm tree from him, and it includes the ḥadīth of the translation. It was recorded by Ibn Jarīr in "al-Tafsīr", and its chain is mursal and authentic. It has been narrated in a connected form from the route of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Zayd ibn Aslam from his father from his grandfather ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb. And this ʿAbd al-Raḥmān is very weak and accused. It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Awsaṭ" (1/101/1/2052 - by my numbering). It was also narrated from the ḥadīth of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd, and it contains two weak narrators, and it is included in "Takhrīj Mushkilat al-Faqr" (76-120) and was mistakenly cited as "authentic," which is an error
