It was recorded by Muslim (4/151). I said: This, along with the previous ḥadīth from al-Jaʿd: "O my son," supports the ḥadīth of Salm al-ʿAlawī and clarifies that the "event" mentioned in it is the revelation of the verse of ḥijāb, as explicitly stated in some of the paths from Salm, as mentioned earlier, and that it was on this occasion he was told: "Do not enter except with permission." This is further confirmed by another narration of Muslim (4/149) from Thābit and others in this story, where it is said: "He went until he entered the house, and I went to enter with him, but he placed the curtain between me and him, and the ḥijāb was revealed." Then I found another path for it, narrated by Ṣāliḥ ibn Kaysān from al-Zuhrī from Anas in a shortened form with the wording: I was the first among the people to know about the verse of ḥijāb. When it was revealed, the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said to me: "Do not enter upon the women." No day passed by me that was more severe than it. (See al-Istidrāk 4).
