"a ḥadīth that is ḥasan gharīb from this perspective." It is likely that he did not authenticate it due to the ʿanʿanah of Abū al-Zubayr, as he was known to practice tadlīs. Therefore, al-Bayhaqī was incorrect in his statement following it in "al-Shuʿab": "This isnād is ṣaḥīḥ"! Similarly, the commentator on "al-Iḥsān" (13/133 - al-Muʾassasah) erred in his statement: "A ṣaḥīḥ ḥadīth according to the criteria of Muslim." He ignored the distinction made by the critical ḥadīth scholars between what Muslim narrated through the path of al-Layth from Abū al-Zubayr from Jābir, which is ṣaḥīḥ because he only narrated what he explicitly heard from Jābir, and what others narrated from him with ʿanʿanah. He also ignored or did not notice that he added to Sālim ibn Abī al-Jaʿd and others that addition which contradicts the authentic ḥadīths: ".. and when you name [a child], do not use my kunya." The denial of this explains the ḥadīth of the chapter prohibiting the combination of the name and the kunya, and this is supported by the authentic addition: "I am Abū al-Qāsim..," as it indicates his exclusive right (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) to this kunya in an absolute sense, as is apparent. Furthermore, the ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah suffered from some of its narrators known for poor memory, similar to the ḥadīth of Jābir with the objectionable addition. Shurayk narrated from Salm ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Nakhaʿī from Abū Zurʿah from Abū Hurayrah in a marfūʿ form with the wording of Abū al-Zubayr from Jābir. It was recorded by Aḥmad (2/312, 454-455, 457, and 461). Shurayk is Ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Nakhaʿī, the judge, who is truthful but makes many mistakes. He was contradicted by Shuʿbah, who narrated it from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Yazīd al-Nakhaʿī, saying: I heard Abū Zurʿah narrate from Abū Hurayrah in a summarized form with the wording: "Use my name but do not use my kunya."
