It was recorded by Ibn Abī Shaybah in "al-Muṣannaf" (8/672/5979) and Aḥmad (3/450 and 5/363-364) and also by Ibn Saʿd, but either he or one of his narrators omitted the phrase "from his uncle," making it mursal! Their isnād is authentic. It is a strong corroboration for the ḥadīth. It is similar in meaning to another wording from Abū Hurayrah: "Name yourselves (or give names) with my name, but do not use my kunya." It was recorded by al-Bukhārī (6188) and in "al-Adab al-Mufrad" (836), Muslim (6/171), Abū Dāwūd (4965), Ibn Mājah (3735), Ibn Ḥibbān (5782), Aḥmad (2/457 and 461), al-Bayhaqī (9/308), and in "al-Dalāʾil" (1/162) through various chains from him. It was also recorded by the two Shaykhs and others from the ḥadīth of Sālim ibn Abī al-Jaʿd from Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh, marfūʿ. Abū al-Zubayr disagreed, saying: from Jābir that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "Whoever names himself with my name should not use my kunya, and whoever uses my kunya should not name himself with my name." It was recorded by Abū Dāwūd (4966), al-Tirmidhī (2845), Ibn Ḥibbān (5786), al-Bayhaqī (9/309), and in "al-Shuʿab" (6/393/8634), and Aḥmad (3/313), with the wording belonging to them and Abū Dāwūd. The wording of Ibn Ḥibbān is: "If you use my kunya, do not name yourselves with my name, and if you name yourselves with my name, do not use my kunya." Similarly, the wording of al-Tirmidhī, except that he did not mention the first part of it, and it seems he did so intentionally due to its contradiction with the authentic chains from Abū Hurayrah as previously mentioned, and he said after it:
