"acceptable." It is not acceptable. The truth in such cases is what al-Dhahabī said: "truthful," and I often see the ḥāfiẓ agreeing with him. And Allāh is the guide. As for al-Masʿūdī, although he became confused, his ḥadīth is authentic if he narrated before the confusion. The way to know this is by examining the narrator from him; if he is from Basra or Kufa, his ḥadīth is authentic because they narrated from him before the confusion. Among them is Khālid ibn al-Ḥārith, as mentioned in the book "Ibn al-Kayyāl," with Khālid being a reliable and trustworthy Basran. The ḥadīth has many supporting narrations, the closest being the ḥadīth of Abū Mūsá al-Ashʿarī from him (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) that he used to supplicate with this supplication: "O Allāh, forgive my sin and my ignorance..." the ḥadīth in its entirety, and in it, this is mentioned, with an addition at the end: "And You are capable of all things." It was recorded by al-Bukhārī (6398 and 6399) and Muslim (8/81) and also by al-Bukhārī in "al-Adab al-Mufrad" (177/688), with the addition in "al-Mustadrak" (1/511) through another chain from him similarly. It was authenticated according to their criteria, and al-Dhahabī agreed with him. Among its supporting narrations is the long ḥadīth of ʿAlī in the supplication of opening, and at the end of it: "Then it is from the last of what he says between the tashahhud and the taslīm..." so he mentioned it in full. It is recorded in "Ṣaḥīḥ Abū Dāwūd" (738) by the narration of Muslim and others
