mention any authentication for the latter, contrary to Ibn Ḥibbān, for he only mentioned the first in his "Thiqāt" (4/291). Both of them were narrated from by Abū Isḥāq al-Sabīʿī. And Allāh knows best. Moreover, al-Sabīʿī is a mudallis, and he narrated it with ʿanʿanah. Sufyān is al-Thawrī, and he was contradicted in his isnād by Shuʿbah, who said: from Abū Isḥāq from Zayd ibn Wahb from ʿAbd Allāh who said: "It is enough of a sin for a person that if it is said to him: (Fear Allāh), he becomes angry"! It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī (8588). Al-Haythamī said about both narrations (7/271): "Their men are the men of the ṣaḥīḥ." So you see that Shuʿbah said: "Zayd ibn Wahb," instead of "Saʿīd ibn Wahb," so I do not know which of them is more authentic. (Note): This ḥadīth was previously mentioned under number (2598) from the narration of Ibn Mandah and al-Aṣbahānī in "al-Targhīb," and it appeared here with a significant addition in the referencing and verification, so I retained it, and Allāh is the Guide to success.

- "There is no harm in that. It means wiping over the leather socks." It was recorded by Ibn Ḥibbān in his "Ṣaḥīḥ" (172 - Mawārid) through the route of Faḍl ibn Sulaymān: Mūsá ibn ʿUqbah narrated to us from Abū Ḥāzim from Abū Hurayrah that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) was asked, and it was said: O Messenger of Allāh! What do you think of a man who passes wind, performs ablution, and wipes over his leather socks, should he pray? He said: and he mentioned it
