I said: This is a sound isnād, its narrators are reliable, the men of the two Shaykhs, except for Ibn al-Aṣbahānī, who is a trustworthy and reliable narrator among the teachers of al-Bukhārī. Ibn Abī Shaybah contradicted him, for he narrated it in "al-Muṣannaf" (1/232) from Abū Muʿāwiyah and Ibn Faḍīl from al-Aʿmash with it as a mawqūf narration. Muḥammad ibn al-ʿAlāʾ followed him, narrating from Abū Muʿāwiyah alone with it. It was recorded by al-Nasāʾī (489/850). And he was followed by Dāwūd and Abū al-Aḥwaṣ from al-Aʿmash with it as a mawqūf narration as well. And there is no doubt that the mawqūf narration is more authentic in terms of transmission, but in terms of meaning, it holds the status of a marfūʿ narration, because it is not said based on opinion, as is apparent. It is strange that these sources were hidden from the ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥajar, especially the book of al-Nasāʾī, which narrated it both as marfūʿ and mawqūf, for he attributed it in the takhrīj of "al-Kashshāf" (7/43) to Ibn Abī Shaybah alone as mawqūf!
