I said: He is truthful as Abū Ḥātim said, and Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in "al-Thiqāt" (8/363) and said: "He makes mistakes and contradicts." I said: thus, his ḥadīth is ḥasan, if Allāh wills, and this is indicated by al-Ḥāfiẓ al-Maqdisī when he says after it in "Ṣifat al-Jannah"—and it was narrated through al-Ṭabarānī: "I see no harm in its isnād." As in "Tafsīr Ibn Kathīr" (1/523). And it is mentioned that Ibn Mardawayh narrated it through another chain from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿImrān. Al-Haythamī said in "al-Majmaʿ" (7/7): "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in 'al-Ṣaghīr' and 'al-Awsaṭ', and its men are the men of (al-Ṣaḥīḥ) except for ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿImrān al-ʿĀbidī, and he is trustworthy." I said: It is strengthened by the fact that it has mursal corroborations in "Tafsīr Ibn Jarīr" (5/104) from a group including Qatādah, and its isnād is ṣaḥīḥ. Another is from the narration of ʿAṭāʾ ibn al-Sāʾib from al-Shaʿbī from Ibn ʿAbbās that a man came to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and said: and he mentioned it. It was produced by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (12/86/12559) through the route of Thābit ibn ʿAbbās Abū Bakr al-Aḥdab: narrated to us Khālid ibn ʿAbd Allāh from ʿAṭāʾ ibn al-Sāʾib... and ʿAṭāʾ had mixed up, and al-Haythamī criticized it for this. But I did not find a biography for this Thābit ibn ʿAbbās in the sources I have, nor did the authors of "al-Kuná" mention him.
