while they were in that state, a man raised his head from a grave among those graves. He was of mixed race, with a mark of prostration between his eyes, and he said: "O people, what do you want from me? I have been dead for a hundred years, and the heat of death has not left me until now, so pray to Allāh for me to return me to how I was." It was recorded by Aḥmad in "al-Zuhd" (16-17) and Ibn Abī Shaybah in "al-Muṣannaf" (9/62) without the story, as well as al-Bazzār in "al-Musnad" (1/108/192 - Kashf al-Astār) from al-Rabīʿ ibn Saʿd al-Juʿfī who heard it from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Sābiṭ from Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said... and he mentioned it. I said: This isnād has trustworthy men, except for a disagreement about Ibn Sābiṭ hearing from Jābir, as Ibn Maʿīn was asked: Did ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Sābiṭ hear from Jābir? He said: No. However, Ibn Abī Ḥātim confirmed his hearing from him, saying in "al-Jarḥ wa-al-Taʿdīl" (2/2/240): "He narrated from ʿUmar, mursal, and from Jābir, connected." This contradicts what he mentioned in "al-Marāsīl" (p. 84), and this is more likely for what follows. The ḥadīth was also recorded by ʿAbd ibn Ḥumayd in "al-Muntaqā min al-Musnad" (folio 152/1) in its entirety, as well as Wakīʿ in "al-Zuhd" (1/280/56) and Ibn Abī Dāwūd in "al-Baʿth" (30/5), and in it, Ibn Sābiṭ explicitly states the transmission, so the ḥadīth is authentic and the isnād is connected, and all praise is due to Allāh. The first part of it has a corroborating narration from Abū Hurayrah, elevated.
