and there is a supporting ḥadīth from Ibn ʿAbbās, raised [to the Prophet], similar to it. It was recorded by Abū Dāwūd and others with a weak isnād, and it includes an objectionable addition with the wording: "Indeed, ablution is only required for one who sleeps lying down..." Therefore, I included it in "Ḍaʿīf Abī Dāwūd" (25), and it is in "the two Ṣaḥīḥs" without this addition, similar to it, and it is included in "Ṣaḥīḥ Abī Dāwūd" (1224 - 1229). As for the addition of the mursal of Ibrāhīm: "His eyes would sleep but his heart would not sleep," it is authentic and has been transmitted as connected in "the two Ṣaḥīḥs" and others, and it is included in "Ṣaḥīḥ Abī Dāwūd" (1212), and from the ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah and others. See "Ṣaḥīḥ al-Jāmiʿ al-Ṣaghīr" (2997). I said: This addition explicitly indicates that sleep does not nullify his (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) ablution, and that this is one of his special characteristics. Scholars have differed regarding the sleep of one sitting firmly in his seat, and the more correct view is that it nullifies [ablution], as I have explained in "Tamām al-Minnah," so whoever wishes may refer to it.
- "Narrate from the Children of Israel and there is no harm, for indeed there were wonders among them." Then he began to narrate, saying: "A group from the Children of Israel set out until they came to one of their cemeteries, and they said: If only we prayed two rakʿahs and supplicated to Allāh to bring forth for us a man from those who have died, so we may ask him about death. He said: So they did
