It was recorded by Abū Nuʿaym in "al-Dalāʾil" (pp. 400-401), and likewise by al-Bayhaqī through the route of ʿUthmān ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb al-Thaqafī: my father narrated to us from Yūnus and ʿAnbasah from him. I said: And this isnād is authentic except for the ʿanʿanah of (al-Ḥasan), who is al-Baṣrī, as he used to practice tadlīs, and its men are reliable, the men of the two Shaykhs, except for ʿUthmān ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb, whom Ibn Ḥibbān declared trustworthy (8/453). The origin of the ḥadīth is in "Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim" with a different wording, and it is in "Ṣifat al-Ṣalāh". Fourth: It is narrated by ʿUyainah ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān: my father narrated to me from ʿUthmān ibn Abī al-ʿĀṣ who said: When the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) appointed me over al-Ṭāʾif, something began to occur to me in my prayer, until I did not know what I was praying! So when I saw that, I traveled to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), and he said: "Ibn al-ʿĀṣ?" I said: Yes, O Messenger of Allāh! He said: "What brought you here?" I said: O Messenger of Allāh! Something occurred to me in my prayer until I did not know what I was praying! He said: "That is Shayṭān, come closer." So I drew near to him, and I sat on the tops of my feet, and he struck my chest with his hand, spat in my mouth, and said: "Get out, enemy of Allāh!"
