"and he narrates from the Gospel and the Torah." All of this confirms that he was a storyteller and a preacher. Such a person is not suitable to be a judge, and therefore (Wakīʿ) did not include him in his book "Akhbār al-Quḍāt," and al-Dārimī titled a chapter: "Chapter on the Permission for Storytelling," and he said afterwards: "Abū Muḥammad - that is al-Dārimī - said: The man from the people of Badr is ʿAlī." I said: Similarly, it appears in the narration of al-Bazzār in "al-Baḥr al-Zakhkhār" (3/130) through the route of Rūḥ ibn ʿUbādah, who said: Shuʿbah informed us, saying: ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Maysarah informed us, saying: I heard Kurdūs ibn ʿAmr say: I heard a man from the people of Badr - Shuʿbah said: I think it is ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib - that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "To separate the detailed is more beloved to me than such and such a door." Shuʿbah said: So I said to ʿAbd al-Malik: Which detailed? He said: The stories. And al-Bazzār said: "We do not know that Kurdūs ibn ʿAmr narrated from ʿAlī except this ḥadīth." And al-Haythamī said in "al-Majmaʿ" (1/161): "It was narrated by al-Bazzār, and in it is (Kurdūs) whom Ibn Ḥibbān deemed trustworthy, and Abū Ḥātim said: 'There is some doubt about him.' The rest of its narrators are the narrators of the authentic collections." Thus he said, and al-Ḥāfiẓ confirmed it in "Mukhtaṣar al-Zawāʾid" (1/134)!
" ويحكي عن الإنجيل والتوراة ". فهذا كله يؤكد أنه كان قاصا واعظا. فمثله لا يصلح أن يكون قاضيا، ولذلك لم يورده (وكيع) في كتابه " أخبار القضاة "، وترجم الدارمي بقوله: " باب في الرخصة في القصص"، وقال عقبه: " قال أبو محمد - هو الدارمي -: الرجل من أصحاب بدر هو علي ". قلت: وكذا وقع في رواية البزار في " البحر الزخار " (٣ / ١٣٠) من طريق روح بن عبادة قال: أخبرنا شعبة قال: أخبرنا عبد الملك بن ميسرة قال: سمعت كردوس بن عمرو قال: سمعت رجلا من أهل بدر - قال شعبة: أراه علي بن أبي طالب - أن رسول الله ﷺ قال: " لأن تفصل المفصل أحب إلي من كذا بابا". قال شعبة: فقلت لعبد الملك: أي مفصل؟ قال: القصص. وقال البزار: "ولا نعلم روى كردوس بن عمرو عن علي إلا هذا الحديث ". وقال الهيثمي في "المجمع " (١ / ١٦١) : " رواه البزار وفيه (كردوس) وثقه ابن حبان، وقال أبو حاتم: " فيه نظر ". وبقية رجاله رجال الصحيح ". كذا قال، وأقره الحافظ في " مختصر الزوائد " (١ / ١٣٤) !
