however, this ʿAbd al-Muʾmin was mentioned by al-ʿUqaylī (3/93): "No one follows his ḥadīth." However, there is a corroborating narration reported by Shuʿbah from ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Maysarah, who said: I heard Kurdūs say: I heard a man from the Companions of the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) from the people of Badr say: He heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say: "To sit in this gathering is more beloved to me than to free four slaves." He said: I asked: Which gathering do you mean? He said: The gathering of remembrance. It was recorded by al-Dārimī (2/319) and al-Bayhaqī in "al-Shuʿab" (564) with this wording, and in "al-Sunan" (10/88-89) and by Aḥmad (3/474). In the narration of Hāshim from Shuʿbah, it was said: "Shuʿbah said: I asked which gathering do you mean? He said: He was a storyteller." And in the isnād, it was said: "I heard Kurdūs ibn Qays, who was the public storyteller in Kūfah." I said: And from this aspect, it is in "al-Sunan," but in both places it appears as: "the judge of the public," "he was a judge." And it was mentioned in "Kitāb Ādāb al-Qāḍī"! And I think it is a distortion, evidenced by his clear narration that he meant "the gathering of remembrance," similar to Aḥmad's narration. Likewise, it appears in "Tārīkh al-Bukhārī" (4/1/243): from Ibn ʿAwn who said: "I saw (Kurdūs al-Taghlibī) and he was the storyteller of the group." And from Abū Wāʾil about "Kurdūs ibn ʿAmr, who used to read the books." Similarly, in "Thiqāt Ibn Ḥibbān" (5/342), it added:
