among them are the two shaykhs, and this is acceptable concerning Muslim, because he narrated it through the route of Ibn Abī Shaybah as mentioned earlier, and it includes the addition, although he did not adhere to its wording, but rather referred to the wording of the narration of Yūnus from Ibn Shihāb before it, and it does not include his mentioned statement: "And I have read it..." As for al-Bukhārī, he narrated it through his shaykh ʿAlī ibn al-Madīnī, and al-Ḥāfiẓ mentioned in "al-Fatḥ" (12/143) that al-Ismāʿīlī extracted it, meaning in "Mustakhraj ʿalá al-Bukhārī" through the route of Jaʿfar al-Firyābī from ʿAlī ibn al-Madīnī, and it includes the mentioned statement, and al-Ḥāfiẓ said after it: "And perhaps al-Bukhārī deliberately omitted it." Then he supported this with the statement of al-Nasāʾī after the ḥadīth: "I do not know anyone who mentioned in this ḥadīth: 'the old man and the old woman...' except Sufyān, and it is likely that he erred in that." Al-Ḥāfiẓ said: "And the imams have extracted this ḥadīth from the narration of Mālik, Yūnus, Maʿmar, Ṣāliḥ ibn Kaysān, ʿUqayl, and others among the preservers from al-Zuhrī, and they did not mention it. This addition occurred in this ḥadīth from the narration of al-Muwaṭṭaʾ from Yaḥyá ibn Saʿīd from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib who said: When ʿUmar returned from the pilgrimage and arrived in Medina, he addressed the people and said:..." and he mentioned the sermon and it includes the addition, and it is in "Ḥudūd al-Muwaṭṭaʾ" (3/42-43).
