I said: This isnād consists of narrators who are trustworthy, the narrators of the two Shaykhs [al-Bukhārī and Muslim], except for al-ʿAyzār, who is only among the narrators of Muslim. Were it not for the fact that Abū Isḥāq experienced confusion, and he is also a mudallis, and he narrated it with ʿanʿanah, I would have affirmed its authenticity. However, he has been corroborated, as will be mentioned, so it is thereby authentic. His name is ʿAmr ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Sabīʿī. It was also recorded by Abū Dāwūd (4999) through the route of Ḥajjāj ibn Muḥammad: "Yūnus ibn Abī Isḥāq narrated to us from Abū Isḥāq with a similar narration," and he added at the end: "The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: 'We have done so, we have done so.'" I said: Its narrators are also trustworthy, but Ḥajjāj ibn Muḥammad—who is al-Aʿwar al-Muṣṣīṣī—experienced confusion at the end of his life when he came to Baghdad before his death, as al-Ḥāfiẓ mentioned in "al-Taqrīb." So I say: I fear that this might be among what he narrated in Baghdad, as it is from the narration of Yaḥyá ibn Maʿīn from him, and Yaḥyá is from Baghdad. However, it is possible that he heard it from him before his confusion, as it has been said that he wrote about fifty thousand ḥadīths from him! I only said "I fear" because two trustworthy narrators have disagreed with him in its isnād: one of them is ʿAmr ibn Muḥammad al-ʿAnqazī, who said: "Yūnus ibn Abī Isḥāq narrated to us from ʿAyzār ibn Ḥurayth with it." He did not mention Abū Isḥāq in it. It was recorded by al-Nasāʾī in "al-Sunan al-Kubrā" (5/365/9155): ʿAbdah ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥīm al-Marwazī informed me, saying: "ʿAmr informed us..." and this al-Marwazī was deemed trustworthy by al-Nasāʾī and others, so the isnād is authentic. The other is Abū Nuʿaym al-Faḍl ibn Dukayn. Aḥmad (4/275) said: "Abū Nuʿaym narrated to us: Yūnus narrated to us with it in a shortened form, and in it:
