"I heard ʿĀʾishah's voice raised as she said: 'By Allāh, I knew that ʿAlī is more beloved to you than my father and me (twice or thrice).'" Thus, the narration of Yūnus directly from al-ʿAyzār without the intermediary of his father al-Sabīʿī has been confirmed by the narration of these two trustworthy narrators, and thereby the isnād is authenticated as we have stated, and all praise is due to Allāh, the Exalted. If al-Ḥajjāj al-Miṣṣīṣī accurately preserved Yūnus's narration from his father from al-ʿAyzār, then Yūnus narrated it in both ways: sometimes through his father and sometimes directly from al-ʿAyzār. What supports this is that he shared many of his father's teachers, including al-ʿAyzār, as mentioned in his biography in "al-Tahdhīb." Ibn Saʿd said in the biography of Yūnus (6/363): "He had a high status (1), and he narrated from most of his father's men." Furthermore, he was not accused of tadlīs; the most that was said about him was summarized by al-Ḥāfiẓ in "al-Taqrīb" as: "Truthful, with minor errors."
