and Abū al-ʿAlāʾ is Yazīd ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Shukhayr. al-Mundhirī said about the ḥadīth in "al-Targhīb" (3/66): "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī and al-Bayhaqī, and the men of al-Ṭabarānī are trustworthy, the men of al-Ṣaḥīḥ." It has also been narrated in a mursal form from the ḥadīth of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Zakariyyā al-Khuzāʿī. He said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "For a man to be struck on the head with an iron rod that penetrates to the bone is better for him than for a woman who is not lawful for him to place her hand on his head. And for a man to be afflicted with leprosy that penetrates to the bone of his forearm is better for him than for a woman who is not lawful for him to place her hand on his forearm." It was narrated by Abū Nuʿaym in "al-Ṭibb" (2/33-34) from Hishām from Dāwūd ibn ʿAmr that ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Zakariyyā al-Khuzāʿī informed us. I say: This, despite being mursal or muʿḍal, as Hishām was a known mudallis and narrated it with ʿanʿanah. (al-Makhīṭ) with a kasrah on the mīm and a fatḥah on the yāʾ: it is what is used for sewing, like a needle or an awl and the like. In the ḥadīth, there is a severe warning for one who touches a woman who is not lawful for him. This serves as evidence for the prohibition of shaking hands with women, as this is undoubtedly included in touching. Many Muslims in this era have been afflicted by this, including some scholars. If they had at least disapproved of it in their hearts, the matter would have been somewhat alleviated. However, they justify it through various means and interpretations. We have been informed that a very prominent figure in al-Azhar was seen by some shaking hands with women. To Allāh we complain of the estrangement of Islam
