When he went to his bed, he would lie on his right side, then say: "O Allāh, I have submitted myself to You, and I have turned my face to You, and I have entrusted my affairs to You, and I have relied on You out of desire and fear of You. There is no refuge or escape from You except to You. I believe in Your Book which You have revealed and in Your Prophet whom You have sent." And he (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "Whoever says them and then dies during that night has died upon the natural disposition." It was recorded by al-Bukhārī in "Ṣaḥīḥ" (11/115/6315) and in "al-Adab al-Mufrad" (1213), and through him by al-Baghawī in "Sharḥ al-Sunnah" (5/102/1316): Musaddad narrated to us, ʿAbd al-Wāḥid ibn Ziyād narrated to us, al-ʿAlāʾ ibn al-Musayyib narrated to us, he said: My father narrated to me from al-Barāʾ ibn ʿĀzib, he said: and he mentioned it.
