rather, I saw ʿAlī ibn al-Madīnī, the teacher of al-Bukhārī, deny in his treatise "ʿIlal al-Ḥadīth wa-Maʿrifat al-Rijāl" (p. 69) that he heard from him, saying: "I do not think he heard anything from him." This was transmitted by al-ʿAlāʾī in his "Marāsīl" (p. 197) and he confirmed it. However, I found a supporting narration for the ḥadīth from Isḥāq ibn Saʿīd: ʿAbd al-Karīm narrated to us from al-Ḥasan from Anas in a marfūʿ form with the wording: "Indeed, the worst of rulers are the tyrants." It was recorded by al-Bazzār (2/238/1604) who said: "We do not know anyone who narrated it with this wording except ʿAbd al-Karīm, who is from Baṣrah, and it was narrated from others than Anas, narrated by Abū Barzah and ʿĀʾidh ibn ʿAmr." I said: This ʿAbd al-Karīm could possibly be Ibn Abī Umayyah, and this was asserted by al-Haythamī (5/239-240) who said: "He is weak." It is also possible that he is someone else, as Ibn Abī Ḥātim in "al-Jarḥ" after mentioning in the biography of Ibn Abī Umayyah al-Ḥasan al-Baṣrī said (3/1/61): "ʿAbd al-Karīm, narrated from al-Ḥasan, was heard by Muḥammad ibn Salām. My father said: Unknown," and similarly in "al-Mīzān" and "al-Lisān." Allāh knows best which one he is, for in their biographies, the narrator of the ḥadīth from him here, Isḥāq ibn Saʿīd, who is al-Qurashī al-Umawī al-Kūfī, is not mentioned, suggesting they might be the same person
