and Ibn Mardawayh in "Thalāthah Majālis" (188/1-2) through various chains from Yaʿlá ibn ʿUbayd: Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid informed us from [ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿUmayr] and Zubayd al-Ayyāmī from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd in a marfūʿ manner, with the addition belonging to Ibn Mardawayh. I said: This isnād has narrators who are trustworthy, the men of the two Shaykhs, but it is disconnected from both angles. As for Zubayd, he certainly did not meet Ibn Masʿūd, as he died in the year (122) and Ibn Masʿūd died in the year (32). As for ʿAbd al-Malik, he was born in the year that Ibn Masʿūd died, or a year after. And it was narrated by al-Ḥākim (2/4) through the route of Saʿīd ibn Abī Hilāl from Saʿīd ibn Abī Umayyah al-Thaqafī from Yūnus ibn Bukayr from Ibn Masʿūd in a marfūʿ manner with it. This isnād is obscure. Saʿīd ibn Abī Umayyah was mentioned by Ibn Abī Ḥātim (2/1/5) who said: "Saʿīd ibn Abī Umayyah ibn ʿAmr ibn Saʿīd ibn al-ʿĀṣ, narrated from Abū Umāmah al-Bāhilī, narrated from him by ʿAnbasah ibn Abān al-Qurashī." He did not mention any criticism or commendation about him. The verifier commented on it by saying: "I did not find this Saʿīd ibn Abī Umayyah, and the biography of Saʿīd ibn ʿAmr ibn Saʿīd ibn al-ʿĀṣ will come, and his kunya is ʿAmr ibn Saʿīd Abū Umayyah, and he has a son named Umayyah. So Allāh knows best." And his teacher Yūnus ibn Bukayr, I suspect he was inserted here by some copyists, as he is later than the generation of the Tābiʿīn, having died in the year (199).
