Kaʿb ibn ʿAlqamah from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Shamāsah al-Mahrī from Abū al-Khayr from ʿUqbah with the concise wording found in Muslim: "The expiation for a vow is the expiation for an oath."

"O ʿUqbah ibn ʿĀmir, shall I not teach you chapters that were not revealed in the Torah, nor in the Psalms, nor in the Gospel, nor in the Qurʾān like them? Do not let a night pass over you without reciting them in it: *Say, 'He is Allāh, [who is] One'* and *Say, 'I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak'* and *Say, 'I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind'*." It was narrated by Aḥmad (4/158) through the route of Ibn ʿAyyāsh from Usayd ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Khathʿamī from Furwah ibn Mujāhid al-Lakhmī from ʿUqbah ibn ʿĀmir who said: I met the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and he said to me: "O ʿUqbah ibn ʿĀmir! Maintain ties with those who cut you off, give to those who deprive you, and pardon those who wrong you." He said: Then I came to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and he said to me: "O ʿUqbah ibn ʿĀmir! Restrain your tongue, weep over your sin, and let your house be sufficient for you." He said: Then I met the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and he said to me, and he mentioned the ḥadīth. I said: And this isnād is authentic because Ibn ʿAyyāsh is reliable among the Syrians, and this narration of his is from the Syrians, for Usayd ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān is from Ramla, and he is reliable, as is his teacher Furwah ibn Mujāhid, as previously explained under ḥadīth (891).
