and the ḥadīth indicates the prohibition of spitting towards the qiblah in all circumstances, whether in the mosque or elsewhere, and whether by the one praying or anyone else, as stated by al-Ṣanʿānī in "Subul al-Salām" (1/230). He said: "And al-Nawawī decisively prohibited it in every situation, whether inside or outside of prayer, and whether in the mosque or elsewhere." I said: This is correct, and the ḥadīths prohibiting spitting in prayer towards the qiblah are numerous and well-known in the two Ṣaḥīḥs and elsewhere.
